I Don't Know Why You're Listening to This: October 2, 2026
Hi, this is Chris Hubs.
I don’t know why you’re listening to this, but since you are, let’s talk about, well, podcasts first.
I’m not quite sure why I’m recording a podcast other than, you know, I can.
I did a more serious podcast with folks from my church over the last year, interviews, actual prep work, real editing on the other end.
It was a lot of fun, but I think it was a lot of work too.
And we got to the point where we just said, no, it’s kind of played itself out.
We didn’t gain a massive audience right up front.
We hit all our obvious interview, local interview candidates and said, well, that was a nice thing to try.
We had fun.
It’s time to quit.
So that’s done now.
And if I’ve got microblog and I can just give this a try, hey, why not?
It’s a fun thing to try.
So here I am thinking the goal with this podcast is going to be just whatever topic is on my mind for the day.
It’s going to be as random and varied as I am, which I’m afraid is fairly random and varied.
Try and keep it under five minutes, which feels like a long time, but as I’m watching the counter run now as I record this, may go kind of quick and just see where it goes.
And if nobody listens to it, I’m at least having fun giving it a try.
And if more than one person listens to it, well, that’s more than I would expect.
It’s Friday morning.
We finally have a sunny day in Iowa after weeks of rain.
It’s been an amazing, it was amazingly soggy September, so I’ll take it.
We’re in the transition between sports seasons.
I’ve been an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, who ignominiously got swept out of the playoffs very quickly this week.
So such is life, maybe next year.
Also followed the Indiana Fever, not as closely, not as long, but, you know, I have to admit becoming one of those bandwagon fans when Caitlin Clark started here at the University of Iowa, where it was our local school.
And then went to the WNBA, and it’s been a lot of fun to watch.
They just didn’t play well enough to win last night and got bumped off by Las Vegas.
And I could yell at the TV and have some gripes about the refereeing and the whistles, somehow how some of them were gone.
But let’s face it, if you want to beat the defending champs, you just got to play excellent basketball, and they were a couple of clicks away from excellent last night.
So see what the team does and retools and what changes before next year, but look forward to that.
But then you flip the switch, and I guess yesterday was opening night for the NHL.
My team, the Dallas Stars, I believe starts tonight, so probably won’t follow them as closely, but it’s been always, always fun to watch.
Living in Iowa, people kind of look at me funny when I say I’m a Stars fan, but I really started following hockey in high school when I lived outside of Dallas-Fort Worth, so that all tracks.
If you really want to rile up people in Iowa, or really the people from Minnesota, you wear your Dallas Stars stuff around, and people are still salty after 35, 40 years that the Minnesota North Stars moved out of Minneapolis and to Dallas.
It’s going to take a generational change before people let that sting go.
So I guess I get it, but it is kind of amusing.
I promise I’m not going to talk about sports every time on this thing.
It’s just the one that was on my mind after watching the game last night.
So what else?
We’ll see what comes up.
I’ve got a few topics in mind for next week, but I’ll save them for next week rather than preview them from here.
Meanwhile, I’m going to go pour some more coffee and get on with my Friday.
We’ll talk later.
