Job Stuff

I’m a Senior Tech Fellow and the Chief Software Safety Engineer for The Boeing Company. I spend most days trying to figure out how we can develop and verify safety-critical airborne software in more robust, reliable, and efficient ways. Right now I’m working remotely from home in Iowa; we are planning a relocation to Everett, Washington, for summer 2027.

Family Stuff

Oldest kid is a practicing Mechanical Engineer and artist. Middle kid is studying Accounting at the University of Nebraska. Youngest kid is a rising senior in high school. Wife and I are trying to figure out when we got old.

Church stuff

I’m a vestry member at our local Episcopal Church. The ECUSA has been a great fit after a few years away from Evangelicalism.

What I’m reading

Go look at The Bookshelf.

Running

Last year I got back into running after losing 70 pounds. Turns out the knees and ankles are a lot happier at the lower weight! Last year eased me back into it, and winter training seemed to set me up for this year. Earlier in June I PRd my 10k, improving by a full 3 minutes and winning my (admittedly fairly small) age group. Running has been a great way to stay active and help me focus.

Projects

I edit and sometimes co-host our church’s podcast, Church Matters. It’s a fun little side project, and we’ve had some conversations with some fascinating people.

I picked up cross stitch again during COVID, and my theme is mid-century modern jazz album cover theme. I’ve done a couple of S. Neil Fujita’s iconic album covers, and I just finished Mambo for Cats by Jim Flora. I think next up will be Ella’s Swinging Christmas, but I still need to get the pattern worked out.
