Job Stuff

I’m a Senior Tech Fellow working in Advanced Technology at Collins Aerospace as the certification lead. My real niche interest is safety-critical airborne software. I spend most days trying to figure out how we can bring new technology to the aerospace market in a way that enhances safety.

Family Stuff

Oldest kid is studying Mechanical Engineering at SDSMT. Middle kid is studying Accounting at the University of Nebraska. Youngest kid is a junior in high school. Wife and I are trying to figure out when we got old.

Church stuff

I’m a vestry member at our local Episcopal Church. The ECUSA has been a great fit after a few years away from Evangelicalism.

What I’m reading

Go look at The Bookshelf.

Running

I got a new pair of running shoes with better cushion this spring and, lo and behold, I can run a bunch of miles without my knee hurting. I started ramping up some miles, running 3-4 times per week between 3-5 miles per run. Not a ton of mileage, but enough to start running a few races to challenge myself.

I ran the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival 5k in just under 26:00, which was a PR. I managed the NewBo 10k on Labor Day weekend in 59:15. Next up is the Cedar Rapids Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving (which promises a donut at the finish line!).

Projects

My latest little project is ramping up production on a podcast for my church. We’ve recorded and edited one episode so far, will be recording a few more in the next month before launching.

On the side I’ve got another cross stitch going, keeping with the mid-century modern album cover theme. I’m just about tapped out of S. Neil Fujita’s album art, so now I’m working on Mambo for Cats by Jim Flora.
