Snuck in a quick run before taking my wife out for Mother’s Day lunch. Ran the first mile in 7:58… first time I’ve ever run a sub-8 mile I think! Slowed down after that, 5k in 27:39. I think with some work this year I could get the 5k time down under 25:00. Worth a try!

Saw our high school’s production of Hadestown (which was FANTASTIC) the last two nights in a row. Fully expect to have the music stuck in my head for the rest of the month.

2025 Reads: The Cosmic Landscape by Leonard Susskind 📚

Well, that was delightful.

I know it’s just the beginning of May, but the Cubs are 8 games over .500, have a 4 game lead in the NL Central, have a +69 run differential, and are somehow doing it while weathering the loss of their ace starting pitcher? This could be a fun season.

Amused that this line about the heavily male engineering school I went to always gets the best laughs.

Here’s what they tell the women at that school about the potential of finding a guy:

“The odds are good… but the goods are odd.”

It’s a little too true.

I had the chance yesterday at my church’s Adult Forum to share my story of growing up fundamentalist evangelical and my eventual journey to joining the Episcopal Church. So much to try to share in an hour, so much I’m sure got left out. Still good to tell the story.

My daughter sent me her final project last night after she got a glowing email back from her prof. And just the title block gives you some idea why. It’s not just a Dynamic Systems project: it’s modeling the action of a swinging saloon door in a classic western. Complete with cartoons. Amazing.
